FOUNDATION: This is a perfect “first art class” for 5&6 year olds. .It is a solid educational building block. Knowledge & skills are presented in a cohesive, cumulative format.  Students learn value, perspective, composition & color theory in an artsy setting and techniques using a wide variety of mediums. Students will develop higher levels of confidence & self-esteem, and complete a portfolio of drawings as well as a realistic style acrylic painting, suitable for framing.

ACRYLIC PAINTING 1: The perfect next step for our Foundation graduates. Students learn Zelda’s famous “Logic Based Layers” system of painting, working from a special selection of pictures.  This is an ongoing, realistic style painting class.  Great for young beginners because of the smaller class size.  Students learn art theory, concepts and techniques in  this “hands on” problem solving class with no lecturing.  Photographs are used for visual reference, but there is no tracing.  Students work independently, at their own pace.

BABY PICASSO: This class is unique in that it is an unstructured vehicle for young artists to express their emotions and inner self without being led, step-by-step by an instructor.  Children learn to explore color, dimension and shape expression without the structure inherent in most art classes.  This “uninhibited” method is best with young children because it encourages free expression instead of having to “color in the lines”

ACRYLIC PAINTING 2:  Students learn Zelda’s famous “Logic Based Layers” system of painting, working from a wide selection of pictures.  This is an ongoing, realistic style painting class, great for beginner and intermediate level students.  Students learn art theory, concepts and techniques in this “hands on” problem solving class with no lecturing.  Photographs are used only for visual reference, there is no tracing.  This class is appropriate for a very wide spectrum of age & skill levels since all students work independently, at their own pace.

COLOR DYNAMICS: Is an ongoing class where young students learn to achieve special effects and explore color theory and relationships.  Students learn drawing techniques and perspective using pastels and other color mediums. They will build a comprehensive color portfolio. This class concentrates primarily on color theory, exploring the relationships between colors and color families.  Projects will include the construction of color wheels and charts, and producing original art works with color drawing media such as pastels, color pencils, inks and watercolor). Highly educational and lots of fun.

DRAWING 1:  Is an ongoing class for serious students.  This is a highly structured class where students will be introduced to the basic drawing concepts and techniques, value, composition, perspective, tone, contrast, etc.

Fee: $90. per 4 week session  deposit: $90. Time: 60min. Materials: included. Class limit: 10 ages: 8 & up

CARTOONING 1: This is an ongoing specialty drawing class. Students learn cartooning concepts such as: the art of maximum expression using minimum lines, using line widths to show emotion & movement, and telling a story without words. The class will be working with a wide variety of cartooning tools and mediums.

Fee:$95. per 4 week session  deposit: $95.  Time: 60min.  Materials: incl.  Class limit: 10  ages: 8 & up

JEWELRY DESIGN: Design pins, necklaces, bracelets, etc. using interesting and unusual techniques. Students will be stringing beads, but will also be creating their own beads and charms using polymer clay, plaster wrap and wrapping techniques, as well as creating unique metal wire coiling pieces. Learning and practicing these techniques will not only encourage creativity and a uniqueness of expression in the student, but also strengthen dexterity, hand/eye coordination and spatial awareness with its tactile functions and design problem solving aspects. Not only educational, but a total blast, as well.

FASHION DESIGN: Learn about fashion trends through the decades. Students gain an understanding of fabrics, coordination of styles, and fashion rendering (drawing).  They will be drawing with an assortment of mediums such as color pencils, watercolor, gouache, markers, etc. creating  “mood boards” using fabric swatches, drawings and embellishments.  There is no sewing in this class, it is a class in theory and design.

OIL PAINTING 1 An introductory beginner’s oil painting class using specially formulated, non toxic, water soluble oil paint.  Introducing students to concept and theory, as well as technique and skills, as they relate to oil painting. This is the perfect “next step” for acrylic students ready to advance. Similar to OIL PAINTING 2, but formulated for the slightly younger student.

prerequisite: at least 1 year of acrylic painting at  Zelda’s Art World, plus teacher’s recommendation.

CLASSES FOR TEEN THRU ADULT

DRAWING 2: Is an ongoing drawing class for intermediate & advanced level students. Learn drawing concepts such as: value, tone, composition, perspective, contrast, etc. Students work mostly from “still life”, in a variety of drawing mediums.

OIL PAINTING 2: This is an ongoing oil painting class for beginner, intermediate and advanced.  Students.  We use a specially formulated non-toxic water, soluble oil paint. Students learn concept and theory as well as skills and techniques. This is the “next step” for our older Acrylic Painting 2 and Oil Painting 1 students. This is an intensive class.

prerequisite: at least 2 years of Acrylic Painting 2 or 1 year of Oil Painting 1 at  Zelda’s Art World and teacher’s recommendation. Or Zelda’s approval

DRAWING 3: An ongoing class for more advanced level drawing students. Building cumulatively on the skills learned in Drawing 2, they explore a wide selection of color drawing mediums (color pencils, pastels, watercolor, inks, etc)

OIL PAINTING 3: This ongoing oil painting class is great for beginner, intermediate and

advanced students .  Using a specially formulated water soluble oil paint, Students learn concept and theory as well as techniques and skills. Students will learn how to visually dissect a picture. This is an intensive class.

Fee:$125.  per 4 week session   deposit: $125.  Time: 2 hr.  Materials: not included.  Class limit: 10  ages: 14-adult

PORTRAITS PLUS ( “HEADS & HANDS”):  Ongoing, intense drawing class for intermediate & advanced students. Learn construction of the head and features and how to “get a likeness”. Learn to draw the human hand. Heads & hands, considered to be among the hardest items to draw, are also among the most important.
